Development and maintenance

Originally, the image analysis engine used on "mosaickr.com" has been developed by students at the Computer Vision Laboratory of the ETH in Zurich (Switzerland).

Since 2010 "mosaickr.com" is operated and maintained by a joint venture of three web- and advertising agencies: getunik (Zurich), unknown? (Lörrach, Germany) and werbal.com (Oberbalm, Switzerland).

Flickr

For this public version of the mosaic engine on "mosaickr.com" all images are fetched from "the almost certainly best online photo management and sharing application in the world" — Flickr. However, the "mosaickr.com" engine in fact accepts any image source.

Image Tools

Any kind of image manipulation on both the input and the output side (alpha-blending, cropping, moving, zooming, pre-defined output formats or any other useful image manipulation options) is at this time only available for commercial use, not on "mosaickr.com".

Commercial Use

For commercial use you can already go much further today. Around the image analysis engine we have image upload possibilities for participants available, as well as different website viewers to allow your visitors to move mosaics, find their images, choose areas and zoom in.

This is typically the case for PR or advertising campaign solutions. You can attach user inputs to each image of the mosaic, such as names and messages (and yes, we also have the necessary controlling mechanisms to prevent abuse of your campaign mosaics). We connect your campaign mosaic to facebook or other social networks. And even take care of oversized physical prints and displays on location.
